At 69, Bob E. lost 30lbs and 15% bodyfat!
Our story this month is one of determination and consistency. Bob Eckert is successful by most measures. He is a successful business man, he has a great family, and he is in good health. But after years of running as his sole source of exercise, he found his previously self-monitored exercise program had “run” its course. He knew he needed additional guidance to feel better.
At 69 years old (when he began), he knew he needed to add strength training to his repertoire to get stronger and continue to age well. Now at 71, Bob is stronger and leaner than ever. Bob is an inspiration to all of us at MUVFit, and we wanted to share his story of success.
Q: What was your life like before joining the MUVFit Personal Training Program?
I spent most of my career in education and was always an avid runner until I developed knee problems a few years ago. My activity level dropped after that other than some time in the gym on machines—I never did any weight training or worked with a trainer or coach. After we moved to Nashville almost five years ago I realized that I really missed being more active and was not in the condition I had always enjoyed.
Q. Why did you decide to join the MUVFit program?
My daughter Elizabeth was a client at MUVfit and invited me to join her at a Saturday workout with a MUVfit group. I liked the people and the energy and thought I really needed to get into an organized training program. I’m so glad I did!
Q. What was your first impression of the MUVFit program? First week, month, etc.
I really had no idea what to expect when I started my training, but I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of the approach and the challenging but achievable goals we set. I’m competitive—I wanted to measure up, so I threw myself into it and stayed with the program and began to see results fairly soon. I also followed a reasonable eating program and began to lose some extra weight in a hurry. MUVfit is a really upbeat and positive environment and I felt supported and encouraged at every session. Clients are very supportive of each other.
Q. What have been some of the tools you have learned that have benefited you?
I have learned that there is no substitute for a really good trainer! It is just almost impossible to be disciplined and accountable enough by myself, even though I am a disciplined person by nature. I’ve also learned that consistency is very important. I make my workouts a priority and only rarely miss.
Q. How is MUVFit different from other programs you have tried before? What makes MUVFit different or unique?
I haven’t done a fitness program before other than my own running. But what I like is having a program tailored to my own fitness goals that is directed by a trainer I have great confidence in. There is a comprehensive approach to good health at MUVfit that I suspect might be missing in other places.
Q. Walk us through your journey. What results and benefits have you experienced at MUVFit?
In terms of my MUVfit journey, I like the new me better than the old me! I lost 30 lbs of body fat in my first four or five months of training and reasonable eating, and added a considerable amount of muscle instead. I’m a lot stronger than I’ve ever been, even when I was a lot younger. I like my new wardrobe better than my old one. My energy level has increased, and I have continued much healthier eating habits two years later. I wouldn’t change anything about it except that I should have started years ago!
Q. What would you say to anyone looking at joining MUVFit?
MUVfit is a place for success! I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about feeling good and having fun with workouts and to anyone who wants to see real measurable results.
